In this solo exhibition, Portland-based artist Adam Friedman uses precision and realistic detail to render the power and mystery of the outdoors.

Friedman engages the challenging contradictions presented when painting nature by depicting seascapes and grand horizon lines inside of man-made compartments, spilling out of constructed vessels and breaking through glass cases. Humans, both as scientists and artists, view the outdoors as something to dissect and compartmentalize, but Friedman reminds us that there will always be something beyond the realm of our understanding.
