Lúkas Kubeja,
Diary
May 15 - June 19, 2026
One Grand Gallery is pleased to announce our debut exhibition with Portland-based painter Lúkas Kubeja. Diary is a series of oil paintings seeking to understand how personal and collective identity is lost and altered by impetuous image archiving. The work reflects the past year of Kubeja’s painting practice, unified by an unsentimental realism that foregrounds the subjects’ commerciality. With a quiet background in photography, Kubeja melds mediums to channel an inherent and instinctive nostalgia.
This show will span the main gallery at 1000 E Burnside and will also, for the first time, extend into the auxiliary exhibition space above. With this in mind, each space will offer contrasting moods and visual stimuli. While the concurrent theme will span both floors, the experiences will be tailored to the different environments. The viewer is invited to question their own relationship to media archives as they encounter hallucinatory memories, unanimously defining working-class life in the 21st century.
Lúkas Kubeja is an artist born in Tacoma, Washington, raised in Portland, Oregon, and educated in New York City. His body of oil paintings and wax pencil drawings investigate the contemporary realities of life as it blends increasingly with digital media, exploring themes of isolation, longing, and grief.
